Hi there! I’m Marjolein, and I live in the lovely village of Ulvenhout, just south of Breda, together with my husband Mike and our two kids, Max and Madelief (oh, and of course our Ragdoll cat, Jackie). Here’s a fun little family fact: all of our names start with an M! It definitely keeps things interesting—especially when the mail arrives addressed to “M van der Muren”… it’s always a surprise who it’s actually for! 😊

Outside of work, I’m a huge Disneyland fan—there’s just something magical about that place! I also love watching movies, and when I need a creative outlet, you’ll find me drawing or painting. And the gym? That’s my go-to stress relief—sweat it out and I’m good to go again!

Earlier Work
As a child, I was constantly drawing—especially Disney princesses. My love for drawing quickly grew, and before long I was using colored pencils and watercolor to bring sweet faces, fairies, and other fantasy characters to life. It felt like my imagination had no limits; I was always sketching something magical.

I even showcased my fantasy drawings at fantasy fairs, where I displayed my artwork dressed in beautiful gowns that I designed and made together with my mom. We created unique outfits that perfectly matched the whimsical world I had dreamed up. It was a truly creative hobby—and such a fun way to bring my art to life! 😊 Almost like I had stepped straight out of one of my own drawings.

My drawings were also turned into all kinds of fun products—like coloring books, figurines, art prints, bookmarks, cards, bags, and more—which I sold at the fantasy fairs as well. One of the absolute highlights? A few years ago, we were visiting Disneyland, and in one of the little shops, I saw something truly magical: MY card was hanging there! How amazing is that?! It felt like a real pinch-me moment, seeing my own artwork in such a special place.

Later, I started working on larger canvases, and my style began to take on a bit of a Disney vibe—with cleaner lines and lots of bright colors. Butterflies, flowers, and cheerful themes kept popping up, making the work feel more playful and full of life. And then… I discovered fluid art! That was the next big step in my creative adventure!

The Discovery of Fluid Art
I discovered fluid art in 2021 when a video randomly popped up—and I was instantly fascinated. The way the paint spreads on the canvas, creating these completely unique patterns… it looked like magic! I knew right away: I need to try this.

I made my very first painting in our living room. I covered the floor, threw an old sheet over the couch, and carefully got to work. When it was done, the painting needed to dry, so I moved the canvas to the kitchen. But the paint was still wet and started dripping everywhere. Naturally, the cat was not allowed anywhere near it, so I covered the painting with boxes while trying to cook dinner. The floor and chairs definitely bear the marks of that first attempt—there are still paint stains to this day, haha! But that moment was the start of my journey into the world of fluid art.

Studio 4C
Eventually, we split the garage in two. One half became my very own Studio 4C; the other half had to make room for my husband’s lawnmower and tools. The kids were already using 4A and 4B for their playhouses, so 4C was the only option left. But honestly? 4C has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? 😊 Having my own creative space felt amazing—and it really gave my art a whole new boost!

“I still clearly remember the first time I made a mess on my worktable… and honestly, I was proud of it! Haha, I always call it “professional mess-making”—it’s become a bit of a signature term in my studio. In the beginning, everything was still spotless, but that didn’t last long. And you know what? That’s the best part: my workspace has become just as lively and colorful as the art I create!”

YouTube & Content Creation
In August 2023, I decided to start sharing my passion and creative knowledge on YouTube. I uploaded my very first Dutch creative video, and the response was incredibly positive. It gave me the confidence and motivation to keep going

In October 2023, I took a big step and launched an English-language channel as well. Speaking English on camera was definitely a bit nerve-wracking at first—but I truly believe that humor and a bit of self-deprecation can take you a long way!

What makes it all so rewarding is seeing that my videos don’t just inspire—they’ve also helped create a warm, creative community of kind-hearted people.

Mijn Studio

I’m also active on Instagram, where I share short videos and photos of my work. I love showing the process behind my pieces and seeing how people react to each step of the creative journey. It really feels like a wonderful way to take my followers behind the scenes of my fluid art adventure.

My Signature: The Fantasy Swipe
What truly makes my work stand out is my Fantasy Swipe. It’s a technique I’m genuinely proud of—something that’s become uniquely mine.

“The idea to use gold paint in my fluid art actually came from my time as a fantasy artist. Even as a child, I loved adding golden accents to my drawings—and that little spark of gold has always stayed with me in my art”

Marjolein van der Muren

So when I started with fluid art, it just felt natural to bring that magical golden touch into my paintings as well.

Fantasy Swipe met gouden spraypaint

The name Fantasy Swipe actually comes from my fantasy art days. I always used gold to give my work a little extra magic, and now I bring that same feeling to my fluid art paintings. Swiping paint combined with a touch of gold makes my paintings not only beautiful but also gives them a magical and luxurious look that I absolutely love.

It’s so exciting to see other artists starting to experiment with this technique too. It really feels like my personal stamp—my own signature. And the best part is that it allows me to share my passion with the world. That mix of color, movement, and gold makes Fantasy Swipe something truly special, and I’m happy it’s become such a recognizable part of my work!

Besides the Fantasy Swipe, I also work a lot with texture and gold leaf. These elements add depth and a luxurious feel to my paintings. The gold leaf creates an extra magical effect, while the texture adds a dimension that makes the work visually interesting and invites you to touch it.

This way, every painting becomes truly unique—with an extra magical touch!
